Introducing Our Dashboard

Welcome to the Toledo Prosecutor's Office Data Dashboard. One of the core values of the City of Toledo is transparency, and nowhere is it more important than in our criminal justice system. This data dashboard makes information about the work we do, the cases we handle, and the public we serve more transparent and understandable for all.

My hope is that all of our partners in the criminal justice system, as well as the community as a whole, can access these numbers to see what is working well and what can be improved to make the City of Toledo as safe and fair as it can be.

Key Takeaways

  • Case Filings

The high volume of misdemeanor cases handled by the Office includes a wide spectrum of offenses ranging from minor misdemeanors to more serious first-degree misdemeanors. While traffic-related offenses make up a significant portion, the Office regularly handles cases involving driving under the influence, crimes against people and property, and domestic violence. The dashboard allows for these cases to be compared by demographics (gender, race, age), as well as offense level and type.

  • Time to Disposition

A key measure for the criminal justice system is the length of time that it takes to complete a case. For misdemeanor cases overall, that length of time has been halved since the beginning of 2023 (from a median of 98 days to 49 days).

  • Domestic Violence Unit

Since 2023, the City of Toledo Prosecutor’s Office has transformed how the City prosecutes some of Toledo Municipal Court’s most complex and sensitive cases – securing more convictions, resolving cases faster, and better serving victims of domestic violence. We are pleased to share the story of our Domestic Violence Unit and its impact to date.

This dashboard was created through the collaboration of the City of Toledo Prosecutor’s Office, the Prosecutorial Performance Indicators, and the Institute for State and Local Governance. The goal of the dashboard is to ensure that the general public has access to data about the review and prosecution of criminal cases in the City of Toledo. This project has been supported by the John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation and the Microsoft Justice Reform Initiative.
